SAS Ballast System (WTC Technology):
Engineered by David Merriman III, this system is based on an airpump and is a hybrid of the low-pressure and compressed air ballast systems. Todive, the vent valve is opened by a servo and air escapes, submerging themodel. To surface, the air pump is turned on, which draws air from the drycompartments of the WTC Water is displaced in the ballast tank and the modelbegins to surface. Once the snorkel assembly breaches the surface, its valve isopened, equalizing pressure in the cylinder and drawing air from the surface tocomplete blowing the tank until empty and the model returns to the fullsurfaced trim. A one-way float valve ensures that water is not inadvertentlypumped into the cylinder. An emergency gas backup is easily fitted to the servoassembly, offering additional safety during operation.

Pros: Includes the benefits offered bythe compressed air and low-pressure vent systems. Emergency gas backupavailable. No need for gas in standard configuration.

Cons: More complicated than othersystems. Air pump is slower for large ballast tanks.

Non-electrical mechanisms associated:SNORKEL ASSEMBLY:
This item comes with the 3.5 SKIPJACK SDand is detailed later on. A key element to the SAS ballast sub-system in thatit works to block off water from getting into the induction line once the saildunks underwater and opens again when the sail broaches the surface. When thesnorkel head-valve shuts, the LPB is forced to draw air from within the SD’sinterior.

SAFETY FLOAT VALVE(安全浮阀):  
This float-operated valve steps in toisolate the SD’s interior from flooding should water get into the inductionline.

FOUR-POINT MANIFOLD(四点歧管):  
A cast resin manifold where the snorkel,and some of the discharge and induction flexible hose elements gather at acentralized point atop the SD cylinder. The manifold is where LPB discharge airenters the ballast tank.
一种铸造树脂歧管,通气管以及一些排放和感应软管元件聚集在WTC气缸顶部的集中点。歧管是LPB排放空气进入压载舱的地方。
VENT VALVE:  
This servo-actuated valve dumps the airwithin the ballast tank when the command is given to flood. At all other times,the vent valve is in the closed position.
当发出溢流命令时,这种舵机驱动的机械阀门倾倒压载舱内的空气。否则,排气阀始终处于关闭位置。
Electrical mechanisms associated:LBP
LPB (low pressure blower)
这是一种经过改良的隔膜泵,通过在泵内加一层橡胶,保证在有压力的情况下泵的两孔不互通。
